On average, young people use their smartphone or tablet for more than two hours a day. Children often use an additional game console. The special posture – the head is tilted forward – leads to neck tension, neck pain and ultimately head and back pain. Why; "In this posture, the spine's cervical spine hangs on its ligaments, overloads and suffers from chronic irritation, resulting in pain in the head, neck and back," explains Ronald Dorotka, a specialist in orthopedic and orthopedic surgery. An enhancer will add the relative lack of motion and the absence of sunlight – both very important for the development of hard bone and physical resistance.

The back is heavy

The background: Our head weighs an average of four to six kilograms. If it is facing forward by about 15 degrees, an additional 13 pounds will act on the back. The lower the header is sinking forward, the more it is loaded. If you look at your mobile device, your head has often dropped by 45 degrees. In this case, forces over 20 kg act on the back. In this position, our cervical spine has to compensate for a great strength. The ligaments are constantly stretched, the muscles are tense, the area can not be fed well with blood.

Of course, it is not new that the back has been wrongly curved. Often people complain about problems back that sits several hours a day at the office. "Whether in the office or using a mobile device: It's important to change your stance every so often to avoid back problems," doctors agree.

The best tips for a healthy back:

1. relaxation exercises: For example, move the head from right to left and lower the ear on each shoulder until it is felt in the cervical spine. Stretch your head up and pull your shoulders down.

2. Lower your eyes instead of your head: Bring your mobile devices closer to your face and lower your eyes from your head and neck. Check your body posture again and correct it if necessary.

3rd move, move! To strengthen muscles, do sports at least once or twice a week and incorporate exercise into everyday life, for example: stairs instead of lifts!

thumb pain

Intensive messaging on the smartphone meanwhile leads to a problem known as "SMS thumb". Constant typing is a repeated pressure on the fingers. A possible consequence is an inflammation of the tendon leading from the thumb to the forearm. Inflammation is notable for puncture or injury of pain. These occur during capture, by pressing and holding the movements of the thumb and leading to movement restrictions. Complaints can not only be felt on the thumb, but also radiated along the tendon on the forearm. The inflammatory tendon is often felt as stiff and hot swelling and is extremely sensitive to pressure.

Exercises for extension and reinforcement can be performed after consultation with the physician. In addition, some patients find pleasing local heating or cooling applications. These promote blood circulation and thus accelerate metabolism in the affected area. You can do this by heating a ceramic stone pillow or putting a cooling pad wrapped in a cloth cloth over the inflamed area.
