The Goose on the String, as well as the Center for Experimental Theater (CED), which still includes the HaDivadlo and ending the U stolku theater, have recently lived a very hectic period. What is the atmosphere here?

The atmosphere at the boss is good, everyone is waiting and enjoying it when it comes to the position of artistic director, an award-winning director, Anicka Davidova (formerly Petrželková, author's note), whose commitment as well as the commitment of the new dramaturg Martin Sladec, will begin on January 1, 2019 The two artists are intensely preparing the new artistic direction of the theater, including the closest closest season.

Upon their arrival, I also look forward to myself because I took various functions after the departure of Vladimir Moravec. Apart from the fact that until recently I'm a dramaturgist, I am the artistic director of Husy na provázku for almost a year and I have served as the director of the Center for Experimental Theater. I look forward to some relief.

How did you handle the attack?

It was a walk in the Tigris. We were in a difficult time, but I think it was very successful. The bandage is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a big, all-day event housed between the House of Arts and the House of Lords of Fanal, an extensive retrospective exhibition, two major festivals in Prague and the Špilberk. In the new season, in cooperation with the Brno Philharmonic, we organized an event in the Besední dům for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic. They have recently made the production of America, which is an excellent answer.

From the beginning of the season, we also started a new round of debates called the Cafe Republic – the last one discussed by Constitutional Court President Pavel Rychetský, with the Slovak Republic's representative Iveta Radičová. Now we have the premiere of player Dostoyevsky, directed by Machala Hába. A new game from Milan Uhde is already preparing for Juraj Nvota. This year was full of intense work and I think I can say boldly that it's a hilarious job.

What about the set? Besides, it began with the reporting event of the whole and almost all the employees …

The set is stabilized, the atmosphere is good. Otherwise, he is in HaDivadle, who in his bid supported his own candidate for CED's position as director. So far there is a hangover there because it happened differently.

There was also a letter requesting extracts from the CEDU …

Yes. I try to be friendly, patient and open, I have the will to talk to them. However, there are also significant financial difficulties. And so we get to the current issues of the whole CED. HaDivadlo is economically non-existent. We partially managed to hide subsidies from the Ministry of Culture, but new productions are emerging, which, of course, bring new costs – at the end of the year, it seems to be a great loss. In the offer, all the candidates agreed that the entire institution was not adequately funded. Finally, even the selection committee itself, made up of experts and representatives of the city council.

How does HaDivold's deficit actually occur?

Every day, as a director, I face various problems. We do not have enough money to make productions. While our budget was upgraded a little last year, we still have half the production of performances in a similar type of theater. This is a terrible number. We have to pay for it not only for the manager but for the entire creative team that works for production for two to three months! At the same time, we have to do a stage, costumes, buy props and so on. We do not have our own workshops or a sewing shop, so we have to buy everything from outside.

So how do you solve it?

We are forced to pay artists lower fees than other theaters. Which, of course, begins to show that it is getting harder to get here the creators of quality. If we want to remain a leading organization that will play a progressive theater, we should be able to engage high-quality artists, but we must be able to pay for them adequately. This is a huge problem. But this is even worse – we do not have enough salary money for our own workers. Everyone is ranked with us at least in an order lower than employees in the same positions in other theaters.

Does this concern all posts?

Yes – from the management through the technique to the actor. The wages of the table in our case do not even take into account the real cost of labor. Other organizations are made up of various bonuses or rewards, but we simply have no money for them. Some CED posts are completely absent. In order to save, people accumulate the functions, they get more work, which means not only that they are badly paid, but they are still overflowed, tired and overloaded for a long time. And then go away. And we have to learn new ones, but they are coming back after a while. And so over and over again. It's a vicious circle.

How much does Husy actress win in the movie?

It varies greatly according to class and grading. The range ranges from twenty thousand gross to thirty thousand gross for the oldest and most experienced actor.

How much will you need to increase your budget next year to avoid the same problems or better pay your people?

From the beginning I try to cooperate with the city. During the selection process, I informed the Director of the CED that I will prepare a report to show how much money the organization is missing. I processed this report and submitted it to the representatives of the city administration – the first senior administration of the municipality, now to the newcomer. All responsible politicians have an accurate analysis available, in which there is a clear disagreement about where and how much CED money is missing. The total amount is 11.6 million crowns.

Throughout CED?

Yes. But it's not a big breakthrough. It is just about creating normal conditions for creation under current operations and maintaining a balanced budget. This amount covers an acute deficiency.

And how did the representatives of the city respond?

I was sure that the City Hall representatives were deeply aware of the TEE's problems and that they considered the solution of their under-construction as one of the city's priorities. Thank you and truly appreciate it. I realize that politicians now have a complex task in creating the 2019 budget. However, such a serious and growing problem is that CED funding should become a public issue as it is closely linked to the cultural policy of the city.

The CED is waiting for a profound and very necessary transformation …

Exactly. Since January 1, the new artistic leadership of Goose on the String Theater has begun. This is a very fundamental change for the theater. Forty-seven days, U theater has been working for twenty years. A new studio has been set up to concentrate on the experimental theater by overlapping in other types of art. It will be a creative workshop inspired by nature and a natural bridge to the unsuspecting scene. Since March, Matyas Dlab is artistic director, Lukáš Jiřička as playwright and Soňa Borodáčová as producer.

The aim is to create a project center, which will be the center of innovative graphic arts capable of establishing long-term cooperation with the domestic and foreign scene. We want to create a space for CET to meet established and ancient artists, both official and underground cultures. At the same time, it is absolutely necessary to restructure the entire section of the director and the administration of the CED.

So, do you have politicians the guarantee that they will increase your budget by the required twelve million? Or can you imagine it will be less? And if they did not do something to you?

I can not imagine it at all. Or to say otherwise: anything that can be imagined, but it should have its consequences. This can be expected to be the result of the CED's limitations. We need to cut the premieres, introduce less traffic and thus reduce self-sufficiency, we must abolish the conversion of the CED. But this would be an interference with the very essence and concept of the whole of the CED. It is a unique organization that has the potential to be a defining cultural force not only in the city or in democracy but also in the international arena.

The CED provides enormous service to the city. At the same time, he produces his own genius loci, focuses on a new audience with a focus and long-term support for original works, new creators and artists. At the same time, it is an important spring and seed of talent. Each year we will play 600 performances and events, which is comparable to the National Theater. So all these issues are of course related to the cultural policy in the field of live art in Brno …

Are you all disgusted?

No – I think we are now on the threshold something beautiful and excellent. It is a unique opportunity to rebuild and rebuild in Brno such a quality and uniqueness that the city can rightly be proud of. We have a great team and look forward to the next.
