Do not underestimate the diseases of the lungs! –

Lung doctors are trying to find people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This serious lung disease in the Czech Republic kills 3,500 people per year. The consequences of the disease can be avoided by early treatment and changing living habits.

In the context of World COPD, Pulmonologists present a two-year pilot program to locate the disease on time. During this period, 7,000 risk individuals will be tested in 30 outpatients with pneumonia. The project is being implemented by the Czech Institute for Information and Statistics Health (IHIS) and the Czech Pneumological and Physical Society (ČPFS) in cooperation with general practitioners of the General Medicine Society (SVL).

According to the professor. MUDr. Martina Vašaková, Ph. Mr D., chairman of the CMPC and the head of the Pulmonary Clinic of the 1st Medical School of Charles University and Thomayer Hospital, could be prevented by timely treatment of the overwhelming number of these pulmonary episodes. In addition, any such event diminishes the pulmonary function of a particular patient.

On the day of open pulmonary surgeries, pulmonologists will control the lungs for spirometry. The event will take place from 17 to 21 in all regions of the Czech Republic. "Last year, we surveyed 1,512 people and 12% of them suspect that they have COPS" said the director MUDr. Stanislav Kos, CSc., President of the Czech Civil Society Against Pulmonary Disease (ČOPN).

COPD is a severe respiratory disorder characterized by a persistent and progressive failure of the lower respiratory tract. Diseases include chronic cough, mucus cough, worsening dyspnoea and reduced tolerance to physical activity. In the Czech Republic, 250,000 (2.5% of the total population) received treatment with COPD patients. Disease becomes the fourth most common cause of death both here and in the world.
