A recent study by Zion Medical found that a new HIV drug called Gammora can eliminate up to 99 percent of the infected cells in humans.

"The drug causes the infected cell to become self-defeating, called apoptosis, and has the potential to cure HIV-infected patients by destroying all cells bearing the genome of HIV," said Dr. Esmira Naftali.

Patients received Gammora with either lopinavir or ritonavir. The combination destroyed 99 percent of the virus in just four weeks without any adverse side effects.

"We are excited to demonstrate the efficacy of our drug in Phase 2b with a larger number of participants over a longer period," said Dr. Naphtali.
