The original Broadway production opened in 1982 at Winter Garden Theater on Broadway, where it ran for 7,885 shows and 18 years. CATS was originally created on Broadway by Cameron Mackintosh, the really useful company Limited, David Geffen and The Shubert.

From its world premiere, CATS has been presented in more than 30 countries, translated into 15 languages ​​and has been screened by more than 73 million people worldwide. Originally directed by Trevor Nunn with Gillian Lynne's choreography and relatives, graphic design and costume design by John Napier, lighting design by David Hersey and sound design by Abe Jacob, CATS opened at West End in 1981. The musical debut at Broadway 1982 where he won seven Tony awards, including Best Musical. Both the original recordings of London and Broadway have won the Grammy Awards for Best Album. The CATS hit song "Memory" has been recorded by more than 150 artists by Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis to Liberace and Barry Manilow. CATS's first live-action film adaptation film, produced by Universal Pictures and the title, will open on December 20, 2019.
