Folksbiene National Folklore Theater "Fiddler on the Roof" will be transferred to Off Broadway Stage 42 in Midtown, where previews will begin on 11 February 2019. The opening will be set for February 21st.
The musician, who follows the story of Tevye and his family in the Far East Russian Settlement in 1905, will finish his course at the Jewish Heritage Museum in Lower Manhattan on December 30.
Written in English by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein and based on Sholem Aleichem's work, the show was first opened on Broadway in 1964. The musician was translated into Yiddish by Shraga Friedman and first appeared in Israel in 1965.
This production, in Yiddish with the English and Russian superstitious, has expanded four times since it began its performance on July 4th and has been praised as an unexpected success.
He is directed by Joel Gray, and Steven Skybell will retake his role as Tevye, like Jackie Hoffman as Yente. Production will be presented by Hal Luftig and Jana Robbins.
