LEUWARDEN – For the first time in a month, Friesian coronavirus infections increased. This was reported by GGD Fryslân. There were 778 positive tests this week, up from more than a week earlier. “Tests for the corona remain important due in part to the flu season.”

The increase in the number of infections is as high as the national average. Where Friesland was the leader in the number of infections per 100,000 population a month ago, the state is now in the middle bracket. Although the number of positive tests has increased again, this is less to the point of hospital admissions for GGD.

which can be explained

The increase in numbers is understandable. The most restrictive measures have been taken since September 25, and people have become more in touch with each other. The effect of such relaxation is usually noticeable after two weeks. Due to the cold weather, people spend more time in rooms where the virus can spread more easily, especially in the absence of ventilation.

Clusters

The number of groups of more than three infections that can be linked to each other is increasing. There are only a few large groups of events beyond that. The infection is spread in almost all age groups. There were few new infections among adolescents alone. The figures above the age of seventy remain low.

Griepseizoen

Meanwhile, the flu season (flu) has been officially established. This means that more people are getting cold symptoms. These complaints are generally no different from corona complaints. Coronary heart disease can be more serious, especially for unvaccinated people.

GGD Fryslân continues to encourage people with complaints to continue testing and expands test options. Thus, the corona is spread as little as possible and there is no burden in hospitals by both corona patients and influenza patients. Vulnerable groups are invited by their doctors to get the flu vaccine. This vaccine reduces the risk of catching the flu and limits the progression of the disease.

Stitches in villages and community centers

GGD will soon be using pop-up sites: a one- or two-day vaccination in a village building, community center or other building. This provides more comfort than a vaccination bus as the temperature drops.

In addition, people are expected to find their way to a reliable community center easier than a vaccination bus. GGD Fryslân’s first use of such a temporary place will be on November 3 and 4 at Wijkcentrum De Hooidollen in Bilgaard, Leeuwarden.

GGD stops using the vaccination bus. Next week, the bus will be on Gorredijk (today, October 15) and Oldeberkoop (Wednesday). Anyone over the age of twelve can be vaccinated there without an appointment.

Vaccination rate

Of the 570,000 Frisians over the age of twelve, 77 percent have already been fully vaccinated. 3089 shots were taken this week. In more than a third of these cases, it happened without an appointment. Spontaneous vaccination is carried out in four fixed places (Drachten, Heerenveen, Leeuwarden and Sneek), except for the bus, up to one hour before the closing time.

Adolescents are currently the largest group vaccinated in all age groups. Three out of five young people aged 12-18 had their first shot.

There are also counseling hours on Tuesdays and Saturdays in Sneek for Frieze residents who are afraid of needles. About twenty people have used it in recent weeks.

Numbers

Over the past week, 6,737 corona tests were taken among Fryslán residents. About 1600 a week ago. A total of 556,084 tests were conducted by Frisians at GGD. The infection rate remained relatively high in the northeast corner.

A total of 55,239 Frisians tested positive this week, along with 778 infected people. GGD Fryslân (four last week) received six hospital admissions in the last seven days. For the first time in a month, GGD was notified of the death.

Municipalities

Noardeast-Fryslân and Achtkarspelen contracted the most new infection per 100,000 population last week. Seven out of eighteen municipalities have doubled. Figures fell on Tytsjerksteradiel and Dantumadiel.

Municipal infection rates (in parentheses last week): Noordoost Fryslân 135 (97), Leeuwarden 90 (67), Heerenveen 86 (37), Smallingerland 82 (49), Achtkarspelen 78 (31), Súdwest-Fryslân 62 (54), Waadhoeke 58 (23), Tytsjerksteradiel 41 (50), De Fryske Marren 39 (23), Opsterland 38 (23), Dantumadiel 29 (31), Weststellingwerf 12 (5), Ooststellingwerf 11 (2), Terschelling 10 (5), Harlingen 4 (2), Vlieland 2 (0), Ameland 1 (0) and Schiermonnikoog 0 (0).
