In Leiden and its surroundings, thirty people have tuberculosis each year, some of whom are contagious. This is what a spokesman for GGD Hollands Midden says. It was announced on Tuesday that a student from MBO Rijnland was infected with the disease. The student will have the contagious, open form of tuberculosis.
In the Netherlands, 800 people per year get tubercolus, says GGD spokesman Hollands Midden. About one-third of these have the infectious form. Therefore, the disease occurs everywhere in the Netherlands with 1 in 17,000 people.
Symptoms of tuberculosis are general complaints that can also occur in many other syndromes. As a result, the illness is often difficult to recognize. The most common symptoms in the early stages of tuberculosis are night sweats, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite and weight loss. People with pulmonary tuberculosis usually have cough conditions for longer periods of time (more than three weeks) and sometimes some bloody mumps.
It is not known how it goes with the student
The school does not want to say anything about the pupil's privacy at Bètaplein. It is also unknown if it is a boy or a girl and in which class the student sits.
