General Loureiro dos Santos died

General José Loureiro dos Santos, a former minister of defense and former army chief, died in Lisbon on Friday, aged 82, who was the victim of the disease, the source said.

Born in Vilela do Douro, Sabrosa municipality, in Vila Real, on 2 September 1936, José Alberto Loureiro dos Santos was Minister for National Defense between 1978 and 1980 in the IV and V Constitutional Governments headed by Carlos Mota Pinto and Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo, and two executives of the presidential initiative of Ramalho Eanes.
Loureiro dos Santos was Deputy Head of Staff of the Armed Forces in 1977 and Army Chief.

He was a member of the Revolutionary Council and Minister of National Defense from November 1978 to January 1980 in the IV and V Constitutional Governments, respectively directed by Carlos Mota Pinto and Maria de Lurdes Pintasilgo.

He served two committees in the overseas territories, Angola (1962/1965) and Cape Verde (1972/1974), was Secretary of the Revolutionary Council in the hot summer of 1975 and, as an important part, participated in the planning and execution of the businesses that contained of 25 November 1975. It entered the reserve in 1993.

With great academic experience, the former minister and military chief taught at the Institute of Military Higher Studies, where he was a member of the Scientific Council, and at the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences (ISCSP) where he was a member of the Honorable Council.

He was also a member of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and the General Council of the New Lisbon University as an external personality.

Loureiro dos Santos was also a writer, with a tremendous job and a teacher, and held numerous conferences, having collaborated in various media for geostrategic and geopolitical issues.
