On November 11, Quarteira receives the Walk for Diabetes, an initiative promoted by the Lions Club of Vilamoura, supported by the Municipality of Loulé and the Quarteira City Council.
The race starts at 9:30 am, in front of Quarteira city center, followed by two routes: 5km and 8km.
According to a press release from the Municipality of Loulé, in the morning, from 10:00 am until 12:00, and in the area in front of the Imperial Center, free diagnosis for diabetes will be conducted for the general public.
Then, at 1:00 pm, a St. Martin's solidarity meal at Restaurant Wild Chicken worth 25 €.
There will be two conferences in the afternoon, with two doctors speaking: At 1:00 pm, Mara Marques will present the topic of diabetes and at 2:00 pm Maria Jose Pierre will talk about the work of the Algarve Oncology Association.
It is recalled that World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14, with the aim of raising awareness and raising the attention of citizens and governments to the problem of Diabetes.
Currently, diabetes is the most common non-communicable disease with high prevalence and increasing incidence. It has already reached about 415 million people worldwide. Portugal ranks among the European countries with one of the highest rates – 13.3% of the Portuguese population aged 20-79, which corresponds to more than one million people, according to the latest data from the National Diabetes Observatory.
