Astronomers have discovered a planet that revolves around the star of Barnard, just six light-years from the sun, in the constellation Ormbäraren. Because the star is so close, scientists have long been trying to find signs of having planets. With the help of measurements taken over 20 years, a large international research team has now been able to see that the star has a wavy movement revealing that a planet surrounds it.
The planet seems to be at least 3.2 times heavier than the earth. Planets heavier than Earth but less than the glaciers of the solar system frost Uranus and Neptune are commonly called ultrasonically. The newly discovered planet surrounds its sun at 40% of the Earth's distance to the sun. Because the star of Barnard is a glowing red dwarf, it is very cold on the planet, although it is so close to its sun, and the environment is perhaps not very beneficial to life.
The closest nearby planet outside the solar system is Proxima b, as reported in F & F 9/2016, at a distance of 4.2 light years. The planet in the star of Barnard is now our second most known exoplanet.
