Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has been transferred to a solitary confinement cell in Rustavi prison at his own request. This was stated in a message posted on Facebook by the Special Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia on Tuesday, October 12.
“Prison authorities offered Saakashvili to stay with his cellmate, but he flatly refused, as evidenced by the relevant documents. Therefore, Saakashvili was placed in a single cell at his request,” the statement said.
In addition, the Georgian department denied reports that his comrades were not allowed to be politicians, and warned that since Saakashvili’s personal doctor had visited his ward several times, the doctor should contact the penitentiary service with all the necessary documents. and justify the reasons for meeting with the patient.
Saakashvili’s doctor said on Saturday that the condition of the politician, who has been on hunger strike since October 1, is deteriorating. The Georgian Ministry of Justice denied the information and assured that the ex-president’s vital signs were in line with the norm.
