The Raiders, in the meantime, separated ways with Irvin because they did not fit into their defensive shape and was the highest player to be paid off that side of the ball. In fact, he played just nine snapshots at the Oakland Shooting Loss at 49ers, led by former free agent Nick Mullens. After the game, first coach Jon Gruden explained his decision to keep Irvin on the sidelines for most of the game.

"We are a group of 4-3 now, so the defense base sometimes does not match the role we have to do," he said. "It's a tip and we did not have much of a lead … His role has fallen, I know he's disappointed, I'm disappointed … He's a good player."

But it is not good enough to stay in a group 1-7 playing for position and not much more.

In eight games, Irvin had six events, three bags and one forced crazy. For some prospects, the Raiders have seven total bags for the season and the man responsible for 43 percent of these bags has been expelled. This development comes after Gruden who spent the first weeks of the season lament for lack of a hustle pass after sending Khalil Mack away to Chicago.
